New Legislation to the Delaware General Assembly

Casino-oriented companies like Sightline Payments with Kirk Sanford would certainly benefit if the industry expands. Pete Schwarzkopf, Sussex County Representative, recently brought a new legislation to the Delaware General Assembly that may allow for two new casinos in the state.

If the notice is passed, Sussex County can expect a new casino, as can New Castle County. Independent, five-member commissions will decide the locations of the proposed casinos.

Schwarzkopf, the House Majority Leader, believes that the new casino will bring jobs to Sussex, while others claim it will cause other casinos to cut back on their staffs. Schwarzkopf says “To me it’s not about casinos. It’s about putting those people back to work in each county.” His opponent, Ed Sutor of Dover Downs Hotel and Casino responded that they “are not helping the state. They’re just shuffling the revenue around and it could mean a loss of jobs at existing casinos.”
